That's "Just A Geek", the new book by Wil Wheaton, published by O'Reilly Books. Wil's first foray into the writing world was "Dancing Barefoot" which he self-published last year (but is now available again, this time also through O'Reilly).
For the last four years, Wheaton has blogged his personal struggles, highs and lows, coming to grips with a going-nowhere career in Hollywood, raising a family and dealing with lingering hatred from (some) Trek fans. Add to that his own misgivings about having left ST:TNG but, a decade later, slowly turning the entire direction of his life from acting towards writing.
"Dancing Barefoot" showed that he had real talent as a writer. "Just A Geek", as might be expected from the title, is even more personal, an autobiography of those years in which he turns things around (and blogs it all). It's all told with plenty of good humor, raw emotion, and much Mixed Case Type (mostly to name inner voices, such as a voice he calls Prove To Everyone That Quitting Star Trek Was The Right Move).
Occassionally intermixed with the stories are the actual blog entries. Having read most of those already, I didn't expect this format would work as well as it does. It's sort of a "meta blog"--what the blogger was thinking, why he wrote the entry, how the resulting feedback affected his subsequent decisions. And it is somewhat surprising to learn how much those entries, especially early on, did not show his true feelings, but were instead an optimistic spin masking depression and frustration.
But even so, the book is no downer. There are quite a few Laugh Out Loud anecdotes, punchlines, or just plain funny phrases.* Yet of the two books, I'd recommend Dancing Barefoot as the better, more entertaining read. And the focus there is less on what one person is going through, and how they felt about it, but on telling stories that everyone can relate to. Hopefully, we'll see many more of those from Mr. Wheaton, both in print and online.
